A Brief Overview of Block Printing Process
As its name suggests, woodblock printing on textiles is done through a stencil carved by an artist on a wooden block and it acts like a stamp. As every piece of Indian block print fabric is handmade, no two pieces are the same, and every hand block print fabric is one-of-a-kind.
In this phase, we send the block print CAD to the customer for approval. Our artisans then start making the block or the stencil, and once the required color is achieved, we send a strike-off to our client for approval.
The production process involves RFD/ Dyed stages.
The types of printing we do include pigment, discharge, and rapid sole. In pigment, the process includes querying, pressing, stanter, and folding. In Procian the fabric is treated with silicate, washing, and softener before pressing, stanter, and folding. In discharge, the fabric is additionally steamed in place of treated with silicate, and in rapid sole, acid wash is the extra step.
